Although once several streets away from the sea, York House now sits seemingly perched on the edge of the cliff but of course now protected by the sea wall. This allows it some of the best views from any property in Robin Hood’s Bay, with large windows on each of its three floors. Built for a sea captain hundreds of years ago and more recently my parents house, it is a fine detached house lovingly maintained over the years.
On the first floor there is a double bedroom at the front en-suite with a shower room which also acts as the downstairs loo. To the rear or seaward side of the house is the large (by Bay standards) kitchen diner with a newly fitted kitchen and access onto the private sun trap of a patio with picnic bench for those early evening gin and tonics ! There is a tv also in the kitchen with satellite freeview channels. The cupboard under the stairs houses the washer/drier which of course you are welcome to use.
The second double bedroom (en-suite with bath and shower room) is on the second floor along with a large open plan sitting room with lazy boy, tv, video player, stereo and electric fire. There is also a payphone for use during your stay as some mobile networks have limited reception in the old village. Again, large sash windows provide amazing views across to the horizon and you may feel a little sea sick at high tide !
There is an open staircase to the top floor of the house which is a large twin bedroom.
Although no open fires (the chimney side of the house having fallen into the sea along with half of the old village!) the house is heated very effectively with radiators throughout and there is a constant supply of hot water for those long soaks after your walks to Ravenscar !
